The History
of Historical Perspectives
In 1998, Robert Fuhr was asked to speak at a business continuity
conference in New York City. Drawing upon a childhood interest
in the RMS Titanic and the popularity of the just-released
motion picture, he provided a lessons learned perspective on
disaster prevention and management.
As a result of this presentation, Robert was invited to speak
at two prestigious national conferences. Soon after he appeared
at those events, requests for Titanic
began coming in from throughout North America. In 2000, the
New England Disaster Recovery Exchange became our first repeat
customer. They asked for a custom program in keeping with
the “Wild, Wild, Web” theme of their annual conference.
The success of this second presentation, Custer,
prompted Robert to leave his job with Iron Mountain and turn
his unique programs into a full-time venture.
Our third program, Pearl
Harbor debuted at an annual IBM conference
that same year and the session quickly filled to over-capacity.
The commotion caused by those turned away caught the attention
of a respected industry magazine. Our fledgling business received
a significant boost when it was made the subject of a feature
article entitled, History
in the Making.
It was not long before more clients were asking for return
engagements. Requests also began coming in from outside the
business continuity community. To meet demand we added programs
based on the American
Revolution, Lewis
& Clark, The
Alamo, and the events
of September 11th. While we continue to specialize
in business continuity and emergency preparedness we now cover
a variety of topics ranging from leadership and teamwork to
successful project management.
Historical Perspectives was founded in New York State’s
historic Hudson Valley in 1999 and relocated to historic Atlanta,
GA in 2002. We operate with our sister company, Strategic
Directions, as part of North-South Enterprises. Strategic
Directions offers solutions related to sales process, performance
management, and organizational structure.
